F2B: How to track your application, Priority Date and Visa Bulletin so you don't miss the next step

F2B is one of the family sponsorship categories with a long waiting period. Therefore, how to track your application is as important as knowing whether your application has been approved by USCIS or not.

F2B is for single sons or daughters 21 years of age or older of US permanent residents and in the Family Preference group.

This means that F2B applications are subject to an annual visa limit and must track Priority Date through Visa Bulletin.

How is F2B different from F1?

These two aspects are easy to confuse.

F1: single son/daughter 21 years of age or older of a US citizen.

F2B: single son/daughter 21 years of age or older of a US permanent resident.

An important change can occur when the sponsor is a permanent resident who then becomes a US citizen. Changing the sponsor's status may affect the application's classification under immigration regulations.

Therefore, the F2B application should not be tracked as a “static” application from the I-130 filing date to the interview date.

Does F2B have to wait for Visa Bulletin?

Have.

This is the core of F2B.

The Department of State classifies F2B as Unmarried Sons and Daughters (21 years of age or older) of Permanent Residents and reserves a portion of the Family Preference quota for this group.

Therefore, F2B Priority Date needs to be monitored regularly.

Where is F2B in August 2026?

According to Visa Bulletin August 2026, for All Chargeability Areas Except Those Listed, F2B has:

Final Action Date: 01JAN18

Dates for Filing: 01JAN19

Other chargeability regions may have different dates, so do not use another country's date to apply to your application.

This is also the reason why F2B users should save Visa Bulletin month by month instead of just viewing a single table.

What does Final Action Date mean?

Final Action Date is a milestone related to the ability to grant a visa to the application when other conditions have been met.

Visas are only issued to applications with a Priority Date earlier than the date the Final Action is announced, according to the regulations of the Visa Bulletin.

For example, if a profile in the All Chargeability area has a Priority Date after 01JAN18 in August 2026, it cannot be concluded that the profile is visa-ready based on the I-130 Approved.

Are Dates for Filing the visa issuance date?

Are not.

Dates for Filing serves a different purpose.

Visa Bulletin explains that people with a Priority Date earlier than the date shown in the table may be allowed to prepare and submit documents to NVC in accordance with NVC notices and instructions.

So:

Final Action Date ≠ Dates for Filing

This is one of the F2B points that need to be tracked most accurately.

What if I-130 Approved but the Priority Date has not yet arrived?

This is a completely possible situation.

USCIS may have completed the petition review but the F2B application still has to wait for a visa number according to the Family Preference quota.

Simply put:

USCIS Approved = petition is approved

not synonymous:

Visa is ready to be issued.

When will F2B switch to NVC?

Once the petition is approved by USCIS and reaches the appropriate stage of the visa process, the application may be forwarded to NVC for further processing.

F2B workers need to monitor:

USCIS → NVC → CEAC

You should not stop at USCIS.

Does F2B need to monitor CEAC?

Yes, when the application has entered the visa processing process at NVC/CEAC.

So, a complete F2B profile should be tracked as follows:

USCIS → Priority Date → Visa Bulletin → NVC → CEAC → Interview

Should we just check USCIS every day?

Are not.

Once the application has been Approved, continuing to check USCIS continuously usually does not bring much new information.

Instead the focus should shift to:

* Priority Date.

* Visa Bulletin.

*NVC.

*CEAC.

* Paper records.

* Interview schedule.
