What is CEAC? How to track your US settlement application and read the application status

After the sponsorship application is approved by USCIS and transferred to the National Visa Center (NVC), CEAC becomes one of the most important systems for people applying for consular settlement in the US.

Many people only know CEAC as a place to "check documents", but in fact CEAC is also used to manage many steps of the immigration visa processing process. The U.S. Department of State said immigrant visa applicants can use CEAC to pay some fees, complete online forms, download documents and receive information from NVC.

What is CEAC?

CEAC stands for Consular Electronic Application Center.

This is an online system belonging to the US Department of State.

For immigrant visa applications, CEAC helps applicants:

* Access visa records.

* Monitor processing status.

* Complete DS-260.

* Manage civil documents.

* Manage financial records.

* Receive messages from NVC.

* Keep track of submitted and missing documents.

When do records start using CEAC?

Normally, after USCIS approves the petition and the file is transferred to NVC, NVC will create the file at the Department of State.

After the profile is created, NVC sends a Welcome Letter containing the information needed to log in to CEAC.

NVC says users need NVC Case Number and Invoice ID Number to access CEAC records.

Therefore, if USCIS has just Approved but does not have NVC information yet, do not expect that the application will immediately appear fully on CEAC.

What information is needed to log in to CEAC?

For electronically processed immigrant visa applications, users need information provided by NVC, including:

* NVC Case Number.

* Invoice ID Number.

NVC recommends keeping the Welcome Letter carefully because this information will be used throughout the visa processing process.

What does CEAC show?

After logging in, users can see a profile overview.

CEAC indicates the current location of the file, such as if the file is at NVC or has been transferred to the embassy/consulate.

The dashboard also displays the status of each visa applicant and financial sponsor on file.

This is why CEAC is so important for cases that have left the USCIS stage.

What do the document statuses on CEAC mean?

One of the most confusing parts is the document status table.

According to the Department of State's CEAC guidance:

Missing

Documents have not been uploaded or do not meet the requirements.

Uploaded

Documents have been uploaded but have not yet been submitted for NVC review.

Submitted

Documents have been submitted and are awaiting NVC review.

Rejected

NVC looked into it but found a problem. Users need to read the Response Note section, edit the documents and resubmit.

Therefore, Uploaded does not mean that NVC has accepted the documents.

This is one of the most common status understanding mistakes made by profilers.

Why has the file been uploaded but the application is still not complete?

Because Uploaded only indicates that the document has been uploaded.

After that, the user still needs to submit the application for NVC to review.

The Department of State clearly distinguishes between Uploaded and Submitted in CEAC.

If the documents have not been submitted, NVC cannot review the documents according to the normal process.

Is Rejected a visa application refused?

Are not.

This is a very common misunderstanding.

In the Civil Documents or Affidavit of Support table, the Rejected status means the document has been reviewed by NVC but has issues that need to be corrected or supplemented.

Users need to read the Response Note, edit the document and resubmit.

It does not mean that the immigrant visa has been refused.

Does CEAC have a message from NVC?

Have.

NVC uses CEAC to send important notifications related to records.

Department of State said NVC will post messages in CEAC when there are changes in application status and users can read these messages directly in the system.

Therefore, only looking at status and ignoring Messages can cause users to miss important requests.

Does CEAC replace USCIS?

Are not.

USCIS and CEAC serve different stages.
